Tai Chi With Mona

Picture
Overview
Mona teaches hour-long classes about the internal Chinese martial art practices for both its defense training, its health benefits and meditation.
Tai Chi is Chinese meditation in movement. The slow, circular motions are based on martial arts and are excellent for improving balance, range of motion and memory. Students will learn how to move their inner energy (chi) from movement to movement. Tai Chi is performed standing up and weight is primarily maintained on one leg or the other. Don’t worry! Balance improves as the form is learned.

Mona practices the Yang-style long form, which is dance-like in its flowing movements. No previous experience is necessary. The basics of the form can be learned in about 10 weeks. Students should wear comfortable clothing that allows freedom of movement. The form can be done barefoot or with gym shoes that provide support.

Schedule
Classes are offered on Fridays from 3:00 to 4:00 PM.
On occasion, special classes and workshops are held.

Cost
There is a suggested donation of $15 per person.
Mona Syring

About
Mona Syring has been teaching beginning, intermediate and advanced Tai Chi for almost 20 years. She took her first Tai Chi class in college, and has taken many classes since then. As her practice deepened, it became a sincere pleasure to share the art with others. She finds it to be a wonderful opportunity to learn from her students!

Philosophy
Tai Chi is based on the Chinese philosophy called Taoism. Taoism is focused on the concepts of natural change and balance. Tai Chi reflects this as one learns how one movement flows into the next, how balance shifts from one side of the body to the other, and how the breath fills and empties the body.

Words To Students
Come to class with no expectations and just enjoy the experience. Remember that your body will learn the form before your mind does, which will give you the opportunity to let go of thoughts and concerns. We will learn the form slowly, movement by movement, and we will have fun as we do.
