THE LA VEREDA FOUNDATION

"La Vereda" in Spanish, means "the path" or "the way."

The foundation's name reflects the foundation's three-fold mission to

promote the arts
involve children in community life
unite the community

The Spanish name honors the heritage of the explorers who in 1694 traveled north from the territory that is now New Mexico and established the original settlement of Del Norte on the Old Spanish Trail.

The La Vereda Foundation is a non-profit organization consisting of a volunteer board of directors that maintains the Ruth Marie Center building as a community center.

The building is named after Ruth Marie Colville in honor of her many contributions to the community. She co-authored La Vereda: A Trail through Time and is the subject of a biography by Jo Ann Virden titled A Passion for Life.
